Four couples with a variety of educational, cultural, racial, and economic backgrounds meet to discuss the issues and conflicts of the first years of their marriages. The couples have been married from one to three years; a period which most experts agree is an extremely crucial one in married life.

The transition from single life to married life can bring with it new pressures and stresses as each partner adjusts to new roles. In a frank and open dialogue, the couples talk about finances, communications, differences in family backgrounds, early parenting, conflict resolution, and a variety of key issues.

Noted author and lecturer Dr. Benjamin Schlesinger of the University of Toronto's Faculty of Social Work hosts the film. Dr. Schlesinger's specialty is family life and marriage and he is the author of Lasting Marriages.
