![]() | FINDING OUT: Incest & Family Sexual Abuse
16 mm / video |
| An examination of the most complex and least understood social taboo. Although one in ten women are victims of family sexual abuse, public awareness of the problem is only just beginning.
In the film, Robin, a victim since age nine, talks about the devastating emotional effect of sexual abuse. Her mother tells how she dealt with the disclosure and the subsequent break-up of her marriage and home. Other mothers describe their shocked reactions and their guilt at not having recognized the signs of sexual abuse. Finding Out concentrates on the role played by the victim's mother in dealing with family sexual abuse. What are the signs she might notice? What can she do to stop it? Where can she go for help? What will the future hold for her and her family? Also appearing in the film are Dr. Renee Fredrickson, a clinical psychologist who specializes in family sexual abuse, and Mary Cain, a family counsellor working with the mothers of sexual abuse victims.
This is a timely and informative film on a sensitive subject. |
