Getting Married ... Staying Married is a documentary film which explores the expectations young people have for marriage versus the realities of married life. With twenty-five percent of all marriages failing in the first three years, most experts agree that the early years of marriage are the crucial years. Getting Married ... Staying Married examines these first years through interviews with couples who have been married from one to three years. In a frank and open dialogue, these couples discuss the problems and conflicts in their married lives and how they have resolved them or are working to resolve them. Also profiled in the film are Susan and Steve, a couple who have been married sixteen years and who have three children. On the surface, their marriage would appear to be a "happy" one. But they have had many conflicts over the years and stress that the key to a lasting marriage is the commitment of the couple to "work" at their marriage.
