| "I'm something of a souvenir
hunter in that you can't have the place, you only pass through the place
but somehow you may be able to capture or recapture some notion of it, some
feeling about it." - Jon McKee

Artist
Jon McKee explores Ontario's wilderness in Postcards from the Shield.
This beautiful documentary follows McKee from his Toronto studio to a canoe
trip on Ontario's historic French River, to the tranquillity of cottage
life on the quintessentially Canadian, Beaver Lake. These locations provided
McKee with the inspiration for his series, Canoes/Fish, an evocative
array of sculpture and paintings. Shaped from a variety of discarded material
-- dock foam, plywood panels, and aluminum sheets -- McKee's art is a marvel
of iconography. His work culminates with Trout World, a 12' by 12'
installation in which 20 life-size, brook trout appear to be swimming through
a stream bed of handmade rocks and beaver chaw.
